The Braid

Performed by Talea Ensemble: Marianne Gythfeldt (clarinet and bass clarinet), Chris Gross (cello), Matt Gold (percussion), February 2014.

A braid needs three equal parts, homogenous yet distinct. Three strands of a single hue: twisting, hiding, emerging, bulging. Diving between, over, and under one-another forming a Bible-belt plait or a mass of Rasta dreads, a bridal catalogue up-do or micro-twisted corn rows. Musically The Braid is all these things and not much else. Just three voices crossing and weaving into textures: silky curly frizzy wild coarse wild frizzy curly silky.
